Artist's Comments

A lot of people sometimes ask for a tutorial of how I work, but I'm not very good at explaining. So here are some progress shots of a portrait of my cat. I don't know if this is helpful at all actually, but I'll answer any questions =)

Step two. When it says 'transfered to Bristol board', that wouldn't be the case here. Since Bristol board nolonger sells in my country this was my first portrait on a simular stock. I wasn't use to it, so the eyes in particular scrathed up abit :(

Sorry its put togethr very quickly.
I did this a while ago and it use to be on my website.

Very cool to see the progress. :D I'd be interested in how the layers are built up... especially the very furry areas. And, would it be possible to have a link to the original photo? Such a pretty cat. :aww:

Once again, amazing. I particularly like this one, though I'm not a fan of cats the colours are just so beautiful! :)
Oh, and you can get Bristol here in Australia, I use an online art store (they're very trustworthy) I can give you the link if you like :)

Thanks!

About the Bristol.. yes please! I'd love a link. I've been importing my own latley, by now with the currency I can't afford to and I'm running low on stock XD

This is a great site, you can get pretty much any art supply on here it seems, and it's all discounted I think. If you can't find the bristol page let me know: [link]

Thanks so much! I'll have to order some soon =)

Thanks!
I'll have to see if I can do that sometime =)

I'm not sure where to photo is at the moment, I think its probably on my other computer, I'll post it if I get the chance =)

Very interesting :)

I have people surprised that I start with the eyes, so it's refreshing to see you do too. I think if you can capture them it's half the battle over, as their soul is in the eyes.

I'm so glad you made this tutorial considering I'm trying to learn how to do cat portraits myself. Plus, dA doesn't have a lot of cat portrait tutorials.

I have one question. Does the way the cat's fur appear in a reference pic determine the stroke you use when you're coloring it. Like up and down, side to side, etc?
